Why Skylight exists
Skyward can tell you your grade. It just takes three screens to say it, and it never tells you when it changes.
The problem
Skyward knows every assignment, every weight and every mark. Ask it something simple, like what your grade is right now or what you need on the next test, and you end up doing the work yourself across three screens. Skylight answers both on one screen, and tells you when the answer moves.
It is a rebuild. Two earlier attempts got as far as signing in to Skyward and stopped there; neither ever fetched a grade. This one keeps that sign-in work, rewritten and tested, and builds the actual app on top of it.
What it is
A free, open-source web app for students with a Plano ISD Skyward (Qmlativ) login. It signs in to Skyward for you, works your grades out from the assignments behind them, and adds a what-if calculator, GPA estimates, attendance, your schedule and alerts when something changes. How much of that gets stored is your call, and guest mode stores none of it.
What it isn't
It isn't a school product. Skylight is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or supported by Skyward, Inc., Qmlativ, or Plano ISD. It isn't an official record either: the grades, GPA and rank here are calculated, so check Skyward for anything that counts. And it can break. It reads Skyward's website, so a change there can stop it working until someone updates it.
What it runs on
A portable core
The whole Skyward integration and all the grade math sit in one TypeScript package that uses nothing but fetch and WebCrypto. Moving it off Cloudflare would be a weekend's work, not a rewrite.
SvelteKit front end
The dashboard and this site are the same SvelteKit app. No component library, no icon package, no web fonts. It's all hand-written, which is why it loads quickly.
Cloudflare
Hosting, the database, rate limiting, the background job and the optional AI overview. None of the app logic is tied to any of it.
Open source
PolyForm Noncommercial 1.0.0, so you can read what it actually does with a Skyward login instead of taking this page at its word.
Rules it sticks to
Keep as little as possible.
Guest mode saves nothing. Anything an account keeps has to earn its place, and the one setting that gives something up says so before you pick it.
Do the math where the data already is.
The what-if calculator and the solver run in your browser. No server needs to see a grade you are only imagining.
Put the bad parts on the page too.
It's unofficial, it depends on Skyward not changing, the GPA figures are estimates, and background alerts are genuinely weaker than leaving them off. All of that is written down here on purpose.
Try it on your own grades
Sign in with your Skyward login, or use guest mode, which saves nothing.
